One Story, Many Parts

Write Your Own Story

This week at Fifty6 we completely abandoned our “normal” programming to give our small group leaders space to spend one-on-one time with their students. And while leaders and students were in and out of a room together, everyone else was divided in four groups (by grade and gender).

Throughout the night four of our pastors rotated from group to group every fifteen minutes or so, each with a stack of four giant foam boards. As we went from group to group, each foam board became a part of a progressive story: beginning, middle, curveball, end. The final product was four complete stories, each with four frames. Everyone had a part in writing every story.

But this was more than just a “keep them busy while one-on-ones were happening” activity. As we closed the night together, we looked at all the stories we had created. In order to know how each story works, you have to know how all its parts fit together. This semester at Fifty6 we will be telling God’s ongoing story of New Creation, understanding how all the parts fit together.

And just as everyone had a part in writing our four part foam board stories, we all have a part to play in God’s ongoing story of New Creation. We are joining God to continue writing this story today. You don’t have to wait until you’re “all grown up,” but can start “writing” this story as a preteen!
