This past week we had a training for our middle school LifeGroup Leaders and Family Leaders (LifeGroup Leaders are pastors to our students, Family Leaders are pastors to our pastors). Along with walking through their job description, expectations, how their role fits in with the larger big picture of our student ministry and our church, and what to do in the event of a crisis or emergency, Corrie Boyle said this:
You are the hands and feet and arms and hugs and love of Jesus.
Volunteers are more than just chaperones or sponsors or babysitters. They are the incarnational presence of Jesus, place-sharing with our preteens from their suffering to their celebrating.
Whether you lead a preteen ministry or volunteer with one, remember that God has hands and they’re attached to your wrists. Because you are the hands and feet and arms and hugs and love of Jesus.
